  2. The Uddhav Thackeray vs Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena rift case before the second bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud. Link here

A Press Note released by the Supreme Court stated as follows :

“The decision to livestream the procecdings of Constitution Benches was taken by the Full Court on 20th September, 2022 and soon thercafter trial runs were undertaken by the Registry. The technical support teams ensured that the livestreaming was without any obstruction or difficulty and was completely seamless.

This step will go a long way in overcoming the barriers of distance and provide to citizens from every nook and corner of the opportunity to watch the Supreme Court proceedings.

This is a humble beginning and the attempts will n o w be made to livestream proceedings in all important matters before livestreaming of all the proccedings becomes the order of the day”.

Four years ago, on September 26, 2018, the Supreme Court in the Swapnil Tripathi case, had accepted in principle the idea of live-streaming cases of public importance.
“Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Live-streaming as an extension of the principle of open courts will ensure that the interface between a court hearing with virtual reality will result in the dissemination of information in the widest possible sense, imparting transparency and accountability to the judicial process”, the Court had observed in the judgment which allowed the petitions filed by Swapnil Tripathi and Senior Advocate Indira Jaising.
However, the judgment remained unimplemented as the modalities for live-streaming were not finalized. On August 26, the proceedings before the ceremonial bench of CJI NV Ramana on his retirement day were live-streamed to the public. That remains the only other instance of live-streaming.
Recently, Senior Advocate Indira Jaising had written to CJI Lalit requesting that the Constitution Bench hearings be live-streamed.

Ajay Devgn Shares His ‘Purane Bills’ From Drishyam, Is He Teasing Drishyam 2 Teaser Date? – News18

It is no secret that Ajay Devgn is set to return with Drishyam 2. However, the actor seems to be hinting that the wait is not going to be too long. On Tuesday, the Singham actor took to Instagram and shared some ‘purane bills (old bills)’ that played a vital role in Drishyam (2015).

The bills included a receipt from ‘Ashok Restaurant’ featuring an order of four pav bhaji with two extra pavs, a CD of Swami Chinmayananda Ji’s Maha Satsang dated October 2 and 3, a ticket from Panjim to Pondolem, and tickets to a film. Fans of the suspense thriller would recall that these bills played a role in proving the family’s alibi in the movie.

Sharing the bills, Ajay wrote, “Kuch purane bills haath lage aaj (Found some old bills today)!” The post has led to believe that it wouldn’t be long before the first look and teaser of Drishyam 2 will land online. If we were to place a bet, we believe it could arrive on October 2.

Fans took to the comments section and expressed their excitement over the return of the film. “Drishyam 2 loading,” a fan commented. “Driysham 2 ka teaser or trailer aane wala Hai sir,” asked another. “Drishyam 2 coming soon,” a third comment read.

It was previously revealed that Ajay, Shriya Saran and Tabu have shot for the film. Earlier this month, a source told Bollywood Hungama that Drishyam 2’s producers and director, Abhishek Pathak has planned to begin promotions of the movie on October 2. They believed that beginning their campaign on this date was appropriate as it had significant meaning for the first part too.

The source added, “Moreover, things fell into place for them as Drishyam 2 is scheduled to be released on November 18, that is, 45 days after October 2. Hence, everyone in the team unanimously agreed to begin the film’s promotional journey on the national holiday.”

While not much is known about Drishyam 2 yet, it is reported that much like the first film, Drishyam 2 is also a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name that was released in 2021.

Tata Group in talks with Singapore Airlines to merge Vistara, Air India: Report – Hindustan Times

Published on Sep 27, 2022 06:47 PM IST

The merger, which could take a year to complete, is a part of a bigger consolidation drive by Tata Sons to save costs.

The Tata Group and Singapore Airlines Ltd are reportedly holding talks to merge the businesses of Air India and Vistara Airlines. According to an article published in LiveMint, the joint venture is being discussed with an aim to optimise resources and compete together against the country’s top airline, IndiGo.

The report quoted two individuals who spoke on conditions of anonymity that Singapore Airlines may maintain a minority stake of up to 25% to the tune of 5,000 to 10,000 crore as part of the merger.

Air India was reacquired by the Tata group last year in one of the most-discussed takeovers of the decade.

“SIA (Singapore Airlines) is Tata Sons’ current JV partner in Vistara. Talks are going on between the two JV partners on how best to leverage the future India opportunity in aviation. What corporate structure will emerge is still under discussion,” one of the two persons was quoted as saying.

The merger, which could take a year to complete, is a part of a bigger consolidation drive by Tata Sons to save costs, create synergies by optimising aircraft utilisation and routes, and increase market share to compete with IndiGo, India’s largest airline with a market share of 59%.

“According to a recent internal exercise, the combined valuation of Air India and Vistara could be at least 30,000 crore,” one of the individuals said.

However, representatives for Vistara and Tata Sons have declined to comment on the merger. A Singapore Airlines spokesperson said, “We do not comment on any confidential discussions that we may or may not be having with our partners.”

In addition to offering economies of scale to both Vistara and Air India, a merger may give Singapore Airlines access to dozens of new slots globally and aid Tata Sons in the consolidation of its aviation business balance sheets.

After the merger, Air India and Vistara are anticipated to maintain their own brand identities, though ultimately only one brand may endure.

DeSantis Warns of Hurricane Ian’s Life-Threatening New Path

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned Tuesday morning of Hurricane Ian’s increasing intensity and its new path during a press conference.

Overnight, Ian was upgraded to a Category 3 storm. The hurricane will exit Cuba later on Tuesday and continue its path toward Florida. Models show that the storm has shifted its track and is expected to make landfall in Sarasota on Wednesday.

Monday’s models showed Hurricane Ian hitting the Tampa area hard, then slowing its path, leading to extended rain, winds and storm surge. Ian was expected to move up Florida’s west coast, but new models show the storm cutting east across the state and exiting into the Atlantic Ocean. DeSantis warned Tampa area residents that they weren’t out of the woods from the impact.

“This is imminent,” DeSantis said. “Understand the impacts are going to be far, far broader than just where the eye of the storm happens to make landfall.”

DeSantis said inland communities may also see hurricane-related events, like power outages, flooding and wind damage to trees.

“Forty-eight hours ago, most solutions had [the hurricane] going up [the] coast, and now most have it ramming into the state of Florida and cutting across,” DeSantis said. “Be prepared for that and understand that can be something that will be happening.”

‘Really historic’ storm

DeSantis reminded Floridians of Hurricane Charley, a Category 4 hurricane that impacted the state in 2004. Although Charley’s intensity was stronger, DeSantis said Ian might cause more catastrophic damage.

“Most damage from Charley was from wind and wind destruction,” DeSantis said. “What we have here is really historic storm surge and flooding potential. The storm surge you are going to see generated from this is going to far eclipse what we saw there.”

Hurricane Ian’s fatal impact

Evacuation orders are in place for several of Florida’s coastal counties, and 2.5 million Floridians have fled their homes. Many school districts have closed to offer shelter to evacuees.

Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie urged residents to follow the evacuation orders. He said he could “100 percent guarantee” that a Florida resident wouldn’t die from storm surge or need to be rescued from a rooftop if they “heed the evacuation orders.”

DeSantis also urged evacuees to bring their pets with them if they evacuate. He couldn’t give a definitive answer when asked how fatal he expected Ian to be.

“The danger to life and limb is really from that surge and that flooding more so than the wind,” he said. “It’s hard to say how deadly. The purpose of evacuation is to protect lives. The more people that heed that, the less likely you are to see fatalities when you have flooding or storm surge in those areas.”

DeSantis said that people often are killed from a hurricane after the storm, rather than directly when it hits. He said causes of death after a hurricane can be from misused generators, driving through flooded streets and electrocution from venturing into standing water.

Holly Madison Won’t Go on Howard Stern, Fears He’ll Ask About Her Sex Life

Holly Madison said she will not appear on Howard Stern‘s radio show over fears Stern will ask about her sex life with Hugh Hefner.

Madison lived in the notorious Playboy Mansion with Hefner, the founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy magazine, from 2001 until 2008 as Hefner’s main girlfriend, despite their 54-year age gap. Hefner died in 2017 at the age of 91.

During Monday’s episode of her Girls Next Level podcast, which Madison co-hosts with former Girls Next Door star Bridget Marquardt, Madison said she purposely avoids appearing on The Howard Stern Show.

“We try to be proactive and selective about the press we do. We choose to not do Howard Stern because we don’t want to talk about it,” the 42-year-old explained, referring to questions about her sex life. “We choose to do stuff we think is gonna be appropriate, but people still think they can ask the grossest questions.”

Stern’s show made its debut on SiriusXM in 2006, with the host moving to satellite radio after a career in traditional radio and TV that began in the 1980s. Over the years, the New York native has been known for his shock-jock antics and pushing the boundaries in his interviews with celebrities.

Newsweek has reached out to Stern’s representative for comment.

Madison released her memoir titled, Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny, seven years ago and said she made it clear she “wasn’t comfortable” discussing certain aspects of her personal life in interviews.

“There were even parts of the sex life that were not consensual for me, and people still think it’s OK to ask the goriest details,” she said.

The mom of two—who shares kids Rainbow Aurora Rotella and Forest Leonardo Antonio Rotella, with ex-husband Pasquale Rotella—added, “Some of you might be like, ‘Well, you’re talking about it, you’re out here talking about it,’ but it’s different when I’m the one bringing it up on my platform and I’m sharing,” Madison explained.

“It’s a different feeling when somebody else is coming at you and they ask you something really specific, like, ‘How often did you guys get tested for STDs?'” she said. “It makes me almost feel, like, aggressive, like I want to give a rude comeback, you know what I mean?”

Girls Next Level premiered in August, and Madison and Marquardt, 49, have been spilling behind-the-scenes secrets about their time at the mansion since.

During last week’s episode, Madison recalled Hefner using baby oil as a lubricant while they were intimate.

“Hef would use baby oil as lube,” she said. “I do not recommend this. It is an infection waiting to happen. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what his hang-up was with it.”

The reality TV alum added that she was “constantly irritated” as a result and was advised by a gynecologist to avoid using it in that way.

Madison claimed, however, that Hefner ignored her concerns and continued using it in secret.

“It got to the point where I refused to use it, but then other people would tell me that he would—in the bedroom—put it on his hand and then put it on me when my back was turned and I didn’t know he was doing it,” she said, noting it was “so foul and so nonconsensual.”

“I had forgotten about that for the longest time, but I was reminded of it for some reason and it made me angry all over again.”

In a separate episode, Marquardt said having sex with Hefner was a “chore.”

“Everybody just wanted to make it go by as quickly as possible,” she said.

Meghan Trainor Plans to Home-School Her Children Over Shooting Fears

Meghan Trainor has said that she plans to home-school her children, with one of the deciding factors being that she fears the possibility of a mass shooting.

The “All About That Bass” singer, 28, who has 19-month-old son, Riley, with her actor husband Daryl Sabara, 30, has converted the attic of their Los Angeles home into a school room for their child and his future siblings.

Meghan Trainor is pictured on February 16, 2020, in London, England. The inset shows a memorial dedicated to the victims of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School on June 3, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. Trainor, who is planning to start trying for another child later this fall, said in an interview with motherhood website Romper that her desire to be in control of her children’s early education stems from some of the frustrations she experienced.

Recounting her own time at school while growing up in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Trainor said: “I’d sit there in a class while my teacher played a movie, and I’d be like, ‘This is pointless. I could be writing a song right now.'”

She also looked toward the style of education she wants for her children, going beyond more than just the conventional.

“I want to hire a preschool teacher that will be able to teach emotions,” Trainor said. “How to handle it when you want to freak out and scream, because they don’t usually do that.”

With gun control in the U.S. being an ongoing hot-button issue—particularly with continued mass school shootings—Trainor said: “And not to get dark here, but [in schools, you have to worry about] guns and all that stuff. I don’t really want to send my kids somewhere where I’m just like, ‘Hope to see you later!’ It’s horrible. Horrible.

“There’s all those victims’ parents thinking, ‘I never thought it would happen to me,’ until it does. Everyone tells me, ‘You can’t keep your kid in a bubble,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, but I can,'” said Trainor.

Part of that home bubble includes her tight-knit group of celebrity moms, including Hilary Duff and Ashley Tisdale, whom she often goes to for advice.

Meghan Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, are pictured together on December 18, 2019, in London, England. Trainor has said that they plan to try for a sibling for their son later this fall.
Karwai Tang/WireImage

“I got lucky. All the moms in our group are so cool,” Trainor said. “The other day I texted them like, ‘My butt is acting up,’ and someone sent me their butt doctor—literally saved my ***.

“I was just with Hailey Bieber and was like, ‘The best thing you can do when you have a baby is find a group of moms and join them.’ It’s our lifeline.”

Elsewhere in her interview, Trainor said she broke down because her son had taken to saying “dada” instead of “mama”—a change that she attributed to her working too much.

“I literally had a meltdown over it,” she said. “But you just take all the blame [when you’re a working mom]. Men don’t have that same feeling, and they’re shocked that we do.”

Those feelings have been explored on her track “Superwoman”—from her album, Takin’ It Back due on October 21 —which addresses how hard moms can be on themselves

“All the wives, all these mamas, you can’t cry,” Trainor said. “Nope, you have to be like, ‘Everything’s perfect; we’re all perfect and happy.’ And it’s not easy.”

Raids Against PFI LIVE: 250 Held in Round 2 of Crackdown; Security Upped in Delhi, SDPI Activists Detained – News18

In fresh action, one person linked to PFI was arrested from Solapur in Maharashtra by the NIA, while eight activists of the outfit were detained in Assam in a late night raid on Monday. The activists detained in Assam include PFI’s Darrang district Anis Ahmed who claimed to have resigned from the outfit, however, no resignation has been found on him by the security forces.

Meanwhile, top police sources told News18 that raids have been underway in several districts of Maharashtra, Nanded, Malegaon and Solapur,  since early hours of Tuesday. Raids are also underway in Uttar Pradesh, sources said.

Multiple raids were conducted in a massive multi-agency operation led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on September 22 against PFI for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country. Several people linked to the outfit have been arrested and detained in follow up action since then.

The PFI was formed in 2006 in Kerala and is headquartered in Delhi. It claims to strive for a neo-social movement ostensibly for the empowerment of marginalised sections of India. It is, however, often accused by law enforcement agencies of promoting radical Islam. The organisation held a press conference to condemn what it termed as “unjust arrests and the harassment” of its leaders and the “witch-hunt” against its supporters after the raids. The NIA claims were baseless, it had said.

Xi Jinping appears in public for first time after returning from SCO summit; Visits party exhibition – The Indian Express

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday visited an exhibition of the Communist Party, appearing in public for the first time after his return from the SCO summit on September 16, which sparked rumours about his absence from the limelight ahead of next month’s key Congress of the ruling party.

Xi on Tuesday visited an exhibition on the great achievements of the Communist Party of China and the country over the past decade, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Speaking at the exhibition, he called for concerted efforts to forge ahead determinedly toward a new victory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the report said.

This is the first time official media reported on his public appearance after his return home from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 16.

Subscriber Only Stories

Observers say that Xi not being seen in public may have been due to seven days mandatory quarantine in a designated place followed by a three-day home stay as per the official guidelines for those returning from abroad under the Dynamic Zero COVID policy, firmly advocated by Xi himself.

His absence sparked rumours of tensions within the CPC which is all set to hold its once-in-a-five-year Congress on October 16 in which 69-year-old Xi is widely expected to get endorsement for a record third-term.

Scotching rumours and speculation over tensions within the CPC over Xi’s continuation, the party on Sunday announced that all delegates totalling nearly 2,300 were “elected” for the Congress under the guidelines set by Xi.

A total of 2,296 delegates were “elected” to attend the upcoming 20th National Congress of the CPC to be held on October 16, the party said in a statement.

The delegates were elected under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and in accordance with the Party’s Constitution, adopting methods required by the CPC Central Committee, it said.

The Congress, in which Xi is expected to get endorsed for an unprecedented third term, is being held amid a big purge of top security officials, stated to be part of a political clique opposed to the Chinese President.

Three security officials were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve this week for corruption, raising eyebrows about the sudden surge of punishments ahead of the Congress.

Sun Lijun, former vice minister of public security who was accused of heading a political clique opposed to Xi, was sentenced to death on Friday with a two-year reprieve for taking bribes, manipulating the stock market and illegally possessing firearms by the Intermediate People’s Court of Changchun in northeast China’s Jilin Province.

A day before that the same court sentenced Fu Zhenghua, former Justice Minister and one of China’s most powerful police chiefs, to death with a two-year reprieve for indulging in corruption amounting to USD 17.3 million and abuse of power.

Hours later, the same court gave a similar sentence to former Jiangsu official Wang Like. He was also sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for bribery, conniving with criminal gangs and faking identity cards, official media here reported.

Since he came to power in 2012, Xi has carried out a shock and awe anti-corruption campaign in which over a million officials, including dozens of top military officers, were punished.

The CPC holds a Congress every five years. But this year’s Congress is regarded as significant, as it is a leadership change year for the century-old party.

Xi, heading the party, the military and Presidency, is due to complete his 10-year tenure.

As per the norm widely followed since the death of party founder Mao Zedong in 1976, all Xi’s predecessors strictly followed a 10-year tenure keeping up with the directive of Mao’s successor Deng Xiaoping.

Deng, regarded as Paramount Leader for his pragmatic social and economic policies introducing market reforms diluting socialist ideology, directed the leaders to strictly confine to a 10-year tenure to ensure the emergence of new and collective leadership to avert some of the excesses like the Cultural Revolution pursued by Mao in which millions of people were killed in the name of ideological experimentation.

Indications are that Xi, who is conferred with the title of “core leader” like Mao, is expected to continue in power for a third term and perhaps for life, which reportedly caused consternation among some of the 96-million-member strong party.
